What can I expect during an acupuncture treatment?
Initial Treatment
(1 hour 30 minutes)
• Bring in a completed health questionnaire provided to you through email or snail-mail
by Balance Point Acupuncture.
• The first 30 minutes of the session entail going over your health history in detail,
examining important areas that you want to address as well as anything else that may be important for your
treatments.
• Based upon this dialogue, a diagnosis is given and discussed with you in as much depth as is necessary
for you to understand and feel comfortable with it.
• When you are ready, we precede with the treatment. The treatment starts off with a bit more diagnostic evaluation
to confirm the original diagnosis, which includes the evaluations
of your tongue, pulse, and abdomen.
• Then, the acupuncture treatment begins, and you are encouraged to breath
deeply and relax while listening to soothing music.
• When your pulses indicate a balanced state, the needles
are removed and any further recommendations on Chinese herbs, dietary supplements, cleanses, and other
health advice are discussed.
Follow-up Treatments: (45 minutes - 1 hour)
• Conversation
about your current state of health and symptoms.
• Diagnosis
• Treatment
Return Visits: (30 minutes)
• A short health update and treatment.
• These
are sometimes needed in order to get faster relief from pressing issues or symptoms.
• Some ailments
are best treated twice a week for 2 to 3 weeks, gradually shifting to once-a-week treatments.
Long-term Treatments:
• As your condition becomes better, we can start spacing treatments out to once every two weeks, once a month, once
a season, etc.
Generally, you will notice improvements within 2 to 3 treatments. Like most other forms of sustainable
medicine and therapy, lasting results can take a little bit of time. If you come in with a chronic ailment, you will probably
need treatments for 8-12 weeks, which may include coming in twice a week for the first few weeks. For simpler cases or if
you turn out to be a quick healer, fewer sessions may be required. Your condition will be re-evaluated as necessary. Though,
by and large, treatment prognosis and duration is different from person to person.
