The use of herbs dates far back into history. Oral herbal traditions are as old as the human race - this along with
shamanism was their medicine.
4,700 years ago, Emperor Shen Nong, also known as the “Divine Cultivator”,
taught people how to farm. He also experimented on himself with different herbs and foods while
deciphering and documenting the qualities and actions of each.
The first formal herbal textbook (still in existence) was the 'Shang Han Lun' which was published in 220 CE.
This book is still used today as a major source of herbal information. Many of the 112 herbal formulas
outlined in this book are commonly used (or borrowed from) at present for modern illnesses.
Balance
Point stocks a complete raw herb pharmacy so formulas can be tailor-made to perfectly fit each client’s
specific needs. Often, people will respond well to a pre-made herbal formula, and in those cases, pills or powders
may be prescribed. Additionally, liquid extracts are also available.
Herbal formulas are usually adapted from ancient
texts, such as the Shang Han Lun. Based on the presentation of illness, a formula is chosen to rectify the imbalance. Proportions
and doses of each herb are altered to address the client’s current situation. Thanks to modern research, herbs can be
added to address a specific concern, such as adding anti-stress or anti-cancer herbs to a formula.
